Prison warden admits bribe to assist ‘drug lord’ escape
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 21: A prison warden, tasked to watch over a drug lord sentenced to life in jail and escaped two days ago, admitted to have received KD 10,000 in exchange for facilitating the escape.
According to security sources, the warden admitted to the investigating officers that he helped the prisoner and provided them with details on the way he facilitated the escape. He said he allowed the prisoner to use his sports car on the condition that the latter will leave the money inside and then the warden’s brother will take the money. He also told the investigators that the drug lord went towards Mubarak Al-Kabeer.
Police have recovered the get-away car in Qosour but no confirmation has been given if the money was inside or not. The search for the warden’s brother and the drug lord is still going on, while speculations are rife that the fugitive left the country through the land exits.
Co-op cash stolen: An unknown individual broke a till machine of a Cooperative Society in Riqqa and stole KD 1,000.
According to security sources, when an in-charge officer of the cooperative society informed the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior about the theft, securitymen and officers from General Department for Criminal Evidences rushed to the location. They collected evidences and lifted fingerprints from the scene.
A case was registered and investigations are ongoing to arrest the unknown suspect.
Car broken into: An unknown individual broke into the vehicle of a Syrian expatriate in Fahaheel and stole KD 4,000.
According to security sources, the Syrian expatriate filed a case against the unknown suspect at the police station and informed securitymen that he had parked his vehicle in front of a commercial complex in Fahaheel. He then withdrew cash from the bank and placed it in the vehicle, after which he went into the complex to purchase an item.
However, when he returned to his vehicle, he was shocked to note that the glass of the vehicle was broken and cash of KD 4,000 was missing from the vehicle.
He immediately rushed to the police station to report the theft.
Investigations are ongoing to arrest the unknown suspect and retrieve the stolen money.
660 bottles seized: An unidentified individual was arrested recently in Abdullah Mubarak area for possession of 660 bottles of imported liquor.
Reportedly, while securitymen were patrolling the area at night, they noticed a Jeep parked by the roadside. When the driver saw the patrol vehicle, he tried in vain to escape. However, securitymen managed to arrest him. They checked his vehicle and found 660 bottles of imported liquor.
He was referred with the liquor bottles to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action against him.
Indian dies in fall: The remains of an Indian man who fell to his death from the balcony of his home in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh have been referred to Forensics, reports Annahar daily.
According to information, the victim lost his balance while spreading clothes in the balcony.
According to eyewitness reports he fell on his head.
Chief editor fined: The Criminal Court ordered Editor-in-Chief of Al-Shahid daily Sheikh Sabah Al-Mohammad to pay a fine of KD 10,000 for threatening and insulting former lawmaker MP Musallam Al-Barrak, reports Alam Alyawm daily.
Reportedly, Al-Barrak had lodged a complaint against Sheikh Al-Mohammad, in which he indicated that the latter issued offensive statements against his personality and dignity.
‘Dead man’ robbed: A Kuwaiti man has filed a complaint with the Salmiya Police Station accusing an unidentified person of stealing KD 14,000 from the account of his dead son, reports Al-Anba daily.
A case of forgery of official documents has been filed with the concerned authorities.
According to the complainant, he discovered the theft when he went to check the bank account of his son since he is the guardian of his children.
He was surprised to learn about the withdrawal of the money after his death. The money was withdrawn in installments.
