KUWAIT CITY, Feb 9: Department of Central Sterilization has sent a letter to the Infection Prevention Department stating that the gauze pads used in the Maternity Hospital does not comply with the recognized specifications, as it leaves residuals inside open wounds, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting reliable sources from Ministry of Health.

Indicating that this matter has raised concern among the medical circles, sources revealed that this is not the first time such gauze pads were imported into the country.

They pointed out that the Infection Prevention Department rejected several medical materials in 2011 after a change in the country of production of these materials; however, these materials were illegally introduced in the hospitals and used on patients.

They lamented that this scandal was revealed soon after the scandal of rotten chicken being served to patients in the Psychiatric Hospital, adding that the Ministry of Health is under pressure to use these materials for the benefit of a company, which is in violation of the decisions of the Central Tenders Committee.
