Tweeter released Hearing delayed
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 7: The Criminal Court on Thursday ordered the release of Saqer Al-Hashash who has been accused of posting offensive statements against HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on his Twitter account.
The court asked Al-Hashash to post bail of KD300 and slapped a travel ban on him. It also set a session on Feb 28 to deliberate on the case.
It can be recalled that the Public Prosecution detained Al-Hashash for 10 days to question him on his tweets which were deemed offensive to HH the Amir. The prosecution then filed a State Security case against him.
Meanwhile, the Court of Appeals, chaired by Judge Salem Al-Khudeir, has adjourned until March 20 the hearing on a case filed against a Qatari accused of deliberately running over Ahmad Assad — a Kuwaiti — with the intention to kill him.
Attorney Ali Al-Ali, who represented Assad in court, demanded referral of his client to Forensics to determine the injuries not mentioned in the first medical report. He said the defendant tried to kill his client after they engaged in a public brawl.
The Criminal Court had earlier sentenced the Qatari to 10 years in jail with hard labor for trying to kill Assad who was, in turn, sentenced to six months imprisonment, along with his friend Ibrahim Haidar, for beating the defendant.
