Decision to employ women in Public Prosecution extolled Kuwaiti judiciary a safety valve: Al-Mershid
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 7: Sheikha Latifa Al-Fahad Al-Sabah has commended the Kuwaiti judiciary for taking a fair decision through verdict 1827/2012 by ordering the Ministry of Justice to accept applications from Kuwaiti women for employment in the Public Prosecution in line with Article 7 of the Constitution, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
Sheikha Latifa affirmed that justice, freedom and equality are the pillars that hold Kuwaiti society.
She quoted Article 29, which is, “People are equal in human dignity, while they are equal before the law in terms of rights and responsibilities. There is no discrimination among them based on gender, race, language and religion.”
She indicated that women have been successful so far in other areas particularly in advocacy, arbitration, contracts and preparation of legal memos, which has helped in boosting the standard of legal sector in Kuwait.
Chairman of Higher Judicial Council and Court of Cassation Faisal Al-Mershid affirmed that Kuwaiti judiciary is a safety valve for the country and citizens, indicating that it is common for some people to praise the judiciary when the verdict favors them while they condemn it when they lose their case, reports Al-Jaridah daily.
He emphasized that the judiciary is a constitutional institution and the judges are competent and dedicated in carrying out their responsibilities, adding that all constitutional states have respect for the judicial verdicts.
Regarding the reactions that resulted from the recent verdicts against three former lawmakers, he said it is not worth listening to irresponsible statements that does not affect them, stressing the judges only care about carrying out their mandates.
He insisted that people of Kuwait should have confidence in the judiciary, leadership and other state institutions.
