MoI rapped for neglecting issue of human trafficking
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 31: Secretary General of the Kuwait Workers Union Fares Mohammad Al-Sawagh has condemned the Ministry of Interior for allegedly neglecting the human trafficking issue, particularly those who bring domestic workers into the country illegally, reports Al-Rai daily.
In a recent press statement, Al-Sawagh asserted the ministry is just focusing on the arrest and deportation of those proven to have violated the Residency Law; while the real culprits remain free and continue their illegal acts without any regard for the law. He claimed these people have been earning millions from their illegal practices and they publish advertisements on newspapers like maids for sale, an indication that they are not hiding their unlawful activities.
Al-Sawagh also stressed the need to address the problem from the roots, instead of making the victims of the illegal practices suffer the consequences. He said the union has forwarded many letters to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor regarding the issue, but no concrete step has been taken until now.
