Assembly Secretariat mulls ‘security system’ overhaul Bedouns up for naturalization limited to 2,000
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 29, (Agencies): Following attempts to storm the National Assembly and amid fears that the opposition forces may again mislead the youth to force their way into and disrupt Parliament sessions, the Secretariat of the National Assembly at the behest of the Assembly Office is considering overhauling the security system with the help of major international companies which are specialized in the field, reports Al-Shahed daily.
According to sources close to the National Assembly Office, a security team from a European company visited the Parliament building recently and submitted a detailed report on how the system can be improved.
The team has also reportedly put forward an idea to install a bulletproof glass inside the Abdullah Al-Salem Hall separating the visitors’ gallery and the MPs to prevent security breaches in future since visitors are known to have hurled objects from the gallery.
The sources said the team has recommended changing the entire security setup in addition to increasing the number of CCTV cameras. This is in addition to installing weapons detectors at the entrance to the Assembly building, since an unidentified MP had earlier complained of ‘people’ carrying arms inside the Assembly building.
Project
Meanwhile, the same sources said the new offices project for the lawmakers is nearing completion.
Meanwhile, the government remains firm in its decision to limit the number of Bedouns up for naturalization to 2,000; hence, it has rejected a parliamentary suggestion to increase it to 4,000, reports Al-Anba daily quoting sources.
Sources said the Human Rights and Bedouns Committee in the Parliament will soon meet Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Sharida Al-Maousharji and Director General of Zakat House to discuss the allocation of monthly allowances for Bedouns.
On the other hand, MP Faisal Al-Kandari has unveiled the plan of HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak to find alternative solutions to loans issue, other than the Fund for the Needy. He argued the statement Finance Minister Mustafa Al-Shimali that there is no other solution but the fund does not mean it is the final decision, because the National Assembly has the final say on the issue.
