Jailed for crimes not committed Man seeks KD 300,000 comp
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 28: On behalf of his client, lawyer Mohammad Al-Majidi has filed a lawsuit seeking KD 300,000 in compensation from the Undersecretary of Interior and Undersecretary of Defense for unjustly accusing his client of crimes he did not commit.
The case file indicates the plaintiff in 2001was mistakenly arrested by policemen alleging a court had sentenced him to serve an imprisonment term.
The lawyer explained that his client served one year in prison with hard labor, based on allegations of evading arrest, with five more years in prison for allegedly using drugs.
Attorney Majidi argued that his client’s passport was forged by the real suspect who committed the crime when he used his client’s documents to get treatment at a hospital after he was severely beaten by some individuals for having an affair with their sister.
The lawyer stressed that the plaintiff lost his passport shortly before his arrest in 2001. He also said the real culprit was found and the truth uncovered after his client completed his term, and the missing passport was recovered.
He accused the Ministry of Interior of incompetence for their inability to investigate the case to trail the real culprit which resulted in material and moral damages to his client.
He stressed that his client’s reputation in society is tainted forever and there’s nothing he can do to restore it.
