Tantiangco, Seva claim Men’s Higher A title Mateo, Tuliao dominate Ladies AB

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21: Joms Tantiangco and Joenel Seva showed that they were the best in the business when they captured the crown in top-most category of the Filipino Badminton Association in Ahmadi (FBAA) 2013 Bhasin –Max Canada Cup Tournament at the Fahaheel Sports Club on Friday.
While Joms and Joenel combined well and displayed a lot of class to capture the Men’s Higher A title, James Aguinaldo and Llue Dex Gabuelo were the champions in Men’s Mid A, Noel Sarabillo and Enrique Macarandang emerged the best in Men’s Lower A, Hans Itaas and Saravanan Muthuvairu finished on top in Higher B, Carl Allison Talampas and Andrew Dalida took the crown in Lower B, Sultan Belga and Ethelbert Guarin ran away with the championship in Higher C1, Butch Bagahansol and Rico Carasco triumphed in Higher C2, Cedric Isidro and Jeanette Eustaquio were the winners in Lower C, Arlene San Mateo and Tanette Tuliao dominated Ladies AB and Ahmad Piston and Lea Espiritu won the Mixed D title.

Men’s Higher A
The tandem of Joms Tantiangco and Joenel Seva walked home with the title in the premium class of Men’s Higher A (MHA) when they outlasted James Flores and Raj Durai in a mouthwatering clash that resulted in an extended 3-set match before the champions won 11-15, 15-6, 16-14.
Earlier, in the semifinals, James and Raja thumped Joshua and Allan 15-12, 15-12 while Joms and Joenel overpowered Albert and Ed 15-8, 15-10 to set up the title clash.
James and Raja had qualified for the semifinals after finishing on top in the Elimination Round but Joms and Joenel had been third but the champions found their form in the knockout stage to dominate the rest of the proceedings.

Men’s Mid A
James Aguinaldo and Llue Dex Gabuelo bagged the crown in Men’s Mid A (MMA) category when they thumped Arnel Lara and Gerry Aguilar 15-12, 15-10 in the final.
In the semifinals James and Llue Dex had hammered Anthony and Kiesha 15-6, 15-7 while Arnel and Gerry overwhelmed Marvin and Ron in back to back sets 15-10, 15-10.
James and Llue Dex had also dominated the Elimination Round, finishing on top while their opponents in the finals had taken second place.

Men’s Lower A
Noel Sarabillo and Enrique Macarandang achieved the highest honour in Men’s Lower A (MLA) when they wasted no time to beat JP Parayno and Kevin Yap in two sets 15-11, 15-13.
In the semifinals JP and Kevin had brushed aside Jonathan and Richard 15-11, 15-13 while Noel and Enrique had fought for every point before they could edge Jeth and Jonnie 15-14, 9-15, 15-14.
First runners-up JP and Kevin had been the best in the Elimination Round after losing only one of their 8 matches but could not overcome Noel and Enrique, who were second in the Eliminations, in the finals.

Higher B
Hans Itaas and Saravanan Muthuvairu collected the crown in Higher B when they outclassed M. Sha and Joel Marasigan 15-7, 15-12 in a one-sided championship final.
In the semifinals Hans and Saravanan edged Mohammed Talat and Gene 14-15, 15-12, 15-11 while M. Sha and Joel outlasted Cheryl and Essam 15-10, 12-15, 15-14.
The Elimination Round had seen Mohammed and Gene at the top as they had remained unbeaten in all their matches but they could maintain their form in the semifinals, losing to the ultimate champions who had been fourth in this round after losing three of their 8 games.

Lower B
The Lower B championship final saw Carl Allison Talampas and Andrew Dalida clinch the title when they outlasted Jojo Cantero and Joey Maravillas 13-15, 15-7, 15-10.
In the semifinals Carl and Andrew overcame Archieval and Sonny 15-14, 15-8 while Jojo and Joey thumped Aldrin and Jonathan 15-12, 15-12.
The champions had been the best also in  after winning 7 of their 8 matches but their opponents had been third with 6 wins and 2 defeats.

Higher C1
Sultan Belga and Ethelbert Guarin gathered the top prize in Higher C1 when they outlasted Allan Co and Rommel Viscara 15-13, 11-15, 15-12 in the championship finals. In the semifinals Sultan and Ethelbert brushed aside Jorge and Benedict 15-11, 15-13 while Allan and Rommel tamed Shabbir and Asish 15-12, 15-12 to set up the championship clash.
Sultan and Ethelbert had finish third in  while the first runners-up had been the best after not losing even one of their 8 matches but they had found the going tough in the knockout round .

Higher C2
The pair of Butch Bagahansol and Rico Carasco bagged the crown in Higher C2 when they outlasted Citadel Alegato and Gerry Punzalan 14-16, 15-8, 15-12 after a very close 3-set final.
In the semifinals Citadel and Gerry edged Jay and Ayla 14-15, 15-7, 15-10 while Butch and Rico overcame Robert and Lito 15-14, 15-14 with the second match going right down to the wire.
Butch and Rico had finished second in  but found excellent form in the knockout round to topple Citadel and Gerry who had been the best in the initial stages.

Lower C
The tandem of Cedric Isidro and Jeanette Eustaquio ran off with the title in Lower C when they thrashed Sheen Gollena and Ron Eric Agda in a game which was seen as a walk in the park as the score read 15-3, 15-7.
In the semifinals Cedric and Jeanette brushed aside Glorence and Sheryl 15-13, 15-10 while Sheen and Ron edged Belinda and Gren 6-15, 15-12, 15-12.
Cedric and Jeanette had been the favorites to take the title after finishing on top in the Elimination Round and their task was made easier as Sheen and Ron upset Belinda and Gren in the semifinals although they failed to carry their outstanding form into the finals.

Ladies AB
The girl power of Arlene San Mateo and Tanette Tuliao bagged the crown in Ladies AB when they tamed Stella Cagampang and Julie Ann Faller 15-13, 15-12 after a close match.
In the semifinals Stella and Julie Ann had thumped Myline and Asleigh 15-9, 15-7 while Arlene and Tanette had fought back after losing the first set to outlast Cecille and Yvette 9-15, 15-11, 15-10.
Arlene and Tanette had finished second in the Elimination Round but Stella and Julie had managed to just sneak into the semifinals where they found their form to stun Myline and Asleigh who had been the best in the first round.

Mixed D
Ahmad Piston and Lea Espiritu collected the title in the Mixed D Class when they overcame Jedric Eustaquio and Miguel Lorenzo in the finals 16-14, 15-8 in what seemed like a close game in the first set before the losers folded in the second.
In the semifinals Jedric and Miguel overwhelmed Zefelyn and Michael 15-7, 15-9 while Ahmad and Lea edged Jenina and Margie 13-15, 15-11, 15-14 in a very close game.
Ahmad and Lea surprised everyone by taking the champion as they had been only 4th in the Elimination Round and had lost 5 of their 8 games but they stunned the more fancied Jenina and Margie — who had finished at the top in the Elimination Round – in the semifinals before displaying the same excellent form in the finals.
