Ministry targets 700 phone lines used to harass citizens, expats Subscribers with no personal data to lose phone lines

KUWAIT CITY, May 20: Ministry of Interior Undersecretary Lieutenant General Ahmad Al-Rujaib has forwarded a letter to the Ministry of Communications, including a list of around 700 telephone numbers used by callers who have been harassing citizens, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources.
Sources revealed the poor infrastructure system in the country caused damages to land cables, resulting in phone call interruptions. They said the prank callers have been taking advantage of the situation to carry out unscrupulous acts like wiretapping, insulting and bothering other people. They added the Ministry of Communications has failed to fix the telephone network in the country.
Meanwhile, Minister of Communications and State Minister for National Assembly Affairs Dr Mohammad Al-Busairi has issued a decision on the formation of a committee, which will receive complaints from employees due to the dissolution of the jobs supervision, recruitment and secondment panels.
Sources confirmed Assistant Undersecretary for Legal Affairs and Surveillance Abdulmohsen Al-Mutairi has been appointed as chairperson of the committee, which is expected to complete its task in the next two months.
In  another development, the State Security Department has ordered the mobile telecommunication companies in Kuwait to cut the telephone lines of subscribers who have not provided their personal data due to suspicions that the hoax bomb calls received by the Ministry of Interior came from these lines, reports Al-Jarida daily quoting sources.
Sources revealed the security authorities have discovered that most of the hoax bomb calls came from telephone lines registered under the names of expatriates who have been deported, while others have reportedly obtained phone lines without providing their personal data in collaboration with the owners of shops selling SIM cards. Sources said the department is currently preparing a list of deported expatriates to demand the telecommunication companies to cut off the phone lines registered under their names.
Sources added the department has been collaborating with the telecom companies on the formation of a higher security panel to eliminate phone numbers of subscribers who have not provided their personal information.
