‘Don’t muzzle local unions’ - Fight against corruption

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 9: No one has the right to prevent the unions from performing their role in fighting against corruption and crisis-provokers, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting the National Union of Kuwaiti Workers and Employees.

In a recent press statement, the union strongly rejected the alleged attempt by Social Affairs and Labor Minister Thikra Al-Rashidi to interfere in its internal affairs.

“Freedom of workers unions is a red line that should not be crossed.

“Since the unions work with full transparency, they will not allow anyone from the government to put limits on what they do,” the statement added.
The union also wondered if the minister’s step is aimed at serving personal interests.
According to the union, Al-Rashidi’s action is a violation of the powers and privileges of the undersecretary who is considered the legal representative of the ministry.
The union also urged the minister to respect the norms and the international conventions.
