Women trying to violate law

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 8: The General Department for Citizenship Affairs and Travel Documents in the Interior Ministry has formed a committee to investigate allegations that some Kuwaiti women, who are married to expatriates and Bedouns, have been trying to get around the law to obtain citizenship for their children, reports Alam Alyawm daily quoting sources.

Sources disclosed these women claim they are divorced so they can get citizenship for their children — a violation of Article Five of the Citizenship Law. After getting ‘divorced’ from their husbands in Kuwait, these women purportedly obtained marriage certificates from another Gulf country, so they appear divorced in Kuwait even if they are still married, sources explained.

Sources said the committee has a list of names suspected of involvement in the illegal act and the list will be forwarded to the concerned authorities for the necessary legal action.
