8 MPs plan to form ‘independent’ bloc Islamists eye ‘Article 2’ change

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 1: Eight lawmakers have announced their intention to establish an independent bloc, reports Alam Alyawm daily.

They indicated that their colleagues can join the bloc if they agree with the bloc’s goals and priorities.
They stressed they will collaborate with the government for the good of the country and cooperate with their colleagues in the National Assembly to ensure social justice and equality among the citizens.

Meanwhile, the Majority Bloc members affirmed their solidarity with the political detainees and suspects during a meeting at the diwaniya of former parliament speaker Ahmad Al-Saadoun, adding that these suspects, who are being pursued for judicial or security purposes, cannot solve the current crisis.

They insisted that some newspapers and TV channels are interested in provoking chaos in the society, emphasizing their sincere commitment to the constitutional system, the rules of which are the only solution to the current crisis.

In another development, a number of Islamist lawmakers are planning to collect signatures of MPs to submit a proposal aimed at modifying Article 2 of the Constitution in order to make Sharia the main source of legislation, reports Al-Wasat daily quoting reliable sources.
