"I defended my honor" - Lebanese dentist murder at Avenues Jan 30 hearing set

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 23: The detention renewal judge has remanded the three suspects – who are accused of murdering a Lebanese dentist at the Avenues Mall — to police custody.

They will appear in court again on Jan 30, 2013. The suspects have denied the allegations leveled against them. They claimed they were only involved in a fight with the deceased.

However, one of the suspects during interrogation had testified buying the knife from the basement of the shopping mall with the intention to kill the victim (a testimony he later recanted) and said he merely wanted to stab the man but the motive was not to kill him.

He also told interrogators the incident happened over a disagreement between the victim and the suspects. He added, after stabbing the victim he went to his home in Sulaibiya and then fled to a tent belonging to a friend in Julaia’a.

He went on to say, he was not aware about the fate of the victim and that when a friend called him about an hour later, informing the victim had succumbed to the injuries, he decided to escape through Kuwaiti-Saudi border. He admitted to stabbing the victim saying he was annoyed when the latter hurled insults at him and wanted to take revenge. He said he acted to defend his honor.

Earlier it was reported an altercation at Avenues Mall Friday night had led to stabbing to death of a young Lebanese dentist, identified only as Jaber Samir Yousef, 26, born of a Kuwaiti mother.

He was repeatedly stabbed to death following a disagreement with four young men. It was also reported the four young men followed Jaber into the mall after a fight began over a parking space.

There have also been reports Jaber suddenly stopped his car, causing the suspects to crash into him, and in turn angering them.

The Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Interior in a statement had said a 22-year-old Bedoun suspect had been arrested and charged with the murder.
