Sabahiya rally turns violent

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 23:  Security Forces succeeded in tackling a political rally which later turned violent on Tuesday, January 22. They prevented the protestors from rioting on Fahaheel Road.

Security Forces had to deal with them using tear gas and stun grenades when the protestors started throwing stones using slings and fireworks at them. They also used green laser beam to confuse and deviate a security helicopter.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior indicated in a statement that some people gathered illegally on Tuesday evening and demonstrated on several roads in Sabahiya and eventually stopped at Mangaf Roundabout.

The demonstrators intentionally closed the roads and stopped the traffic, and their illegal activities affected the security of the area and terrorized the residents. They also set on fire the waste containers in the residential areas.

The ministry expressed annoyance over the fact that the protestors continue to gather illegally and block roads intentionally despite continuous efforts by securitymen in bidding them to behave responsibly, adding that a security officer sustained head injury and was referred to the nearest hospital when the protestors started throwing stones and fireworks at the securitymen.

Securitymen avoided direct clashes with the protestors, and managed to control the situation and disperse the gathering.
