Cabinet ‘okays’ 2011 Amiri media amnesty Decree to activate draft law on money laundering OK’d

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 21, (KUNA): The cabinet Monday approved a draft decree over an Amiri amnesty in 2011 regarding information ministry’s law suits against all media outlets, and referred the decree to His Highness the Amir for approval.
The cabinet members, in a weekly meeting chaired by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, also approved a draft decree to activate the draft law over money laundering and terrorism financing.
The cabinet, meanwhile, took note of the delegation accompanying His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to the Arab Economic and Development Summit, currently underway in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

It expressed confidence the two-day summit would positively contribute to cementing joint Arab action and face challenges facing the Arab countries.
The cabinet members took note of a letter from OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu who invited His Highness the Amir to the upcoming OIC Summit, due in Cairo next month.
They also took note of a letter from Lebanese President Michel Sulaiman to His Highness the Amir in which he announced participation in the Syrian donors’ conference in Kuwait on Jan 30.
The ministers then were briefed about preparations to host the donors’ conference, aimed at providing aid for the Syrian refugees in countries neighboring to Syria.
The cabinet affirmed that the conference would support the international community’s humanitarian aid for the Syrian people.

Deputy premier and foreign minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah praised His Highness the Amir’s initiative to hosting the donors’ conference.
Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah, for his part, talked about the outcome of the Arab foreign ministers’ extraordinary meeting that was held in Cairo to discuss the Syrian conflict and how to help the Syrian refugees, in addition to the Palestinian cause.
The Arab foreign ministers also discussed the postponement of a UN conference over ridding the Middle East from nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction (WMD).
On another topic, the foreign minister briefed the cabinet about his visit to Tunisia to represent His Highness the Amir to the 2nd anniversary of the Tunisian revolution. He also talked about his talks with President Moncef Marzouqi and prime minister Hamadi Jebali.
On the other hand, the cabinet approved agreements with Peru and Vietnam regarding the exemption of holders of diplomatic and special passports from visa requirement.
