7,257 citations issued, 567 cars seized in GTD drive

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 19: The General Traffic Department (GTD) launched a surprise inspection campaign during the weekend, resulting in the issuance of 7,257 traffic citations, impounding of 567 vehicles and 17 motorbikes, and arrest of an unidentified person.
In a press statement Saturday, the department said a total of 1,018 traffic citations were issued and six vehicles were confiscated in the Capital Governorate.
In Farwaniya, 977 citations were issued and 57 vehicles were impounded, while in Hawally, a total of 1,859 citations were issued and 320 vehicles were confiscated; in addition to 833 citations and 15 vehicles in Ahmadi, 291 citations and one vehicle in Mubarak Al-Kabeer, and 340 citations and 21 vehicles in Jahra.
Moreover, the Operations Unit at the department registered 1,685 violations; confiscated 147 vehicles and 17 motorbikes and arrested one person.  The campaign also led to the registration of 108 violations at the Kuwait International Airport.

Youth stabbed: A youth from one Gulf country was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Jahra Hospital due to serious stab wound. The youth was stabbed in the back while fighting a group of youths at Sulaibiya. 
Security sources said the fight broke out as a result of a previous argument and the youth was stabbed by one of the feuding parties. Police have registered the case for investigation and search is ongoing to arrest the perpetrator.
