Bedoun irked by delays eye wasta for DNA test ‘It could take years’

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 12: Scheduling dates for DNA tests in the past required a month or two, then it became a year or two due to thousands of files of Bedoun piling at the Fingerprints Department, where many suspects and Twitter users involved in cases, participants of chaotic marches and rallies, as well as naturalized spouses of Kuwaiti men and other matters are referred for investigation, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.

The Fingerprints Department at the General Criminal Evidence Department-one of the departments that responded swiftly to incidents, started receiving a glut of files and official letters from several government authorities for DNA tests.

As a result, the department started extending schedules for DNA tests due to lack of support from the Central System for Remedying the Status of Illegal Residents (CSRSIR), although it was showing signs of cooperation at the beginning and had promised to support the department to complete the DNA transactions for Bedouns expected to be naturalized in the future, as recommended by the National Assembly, and upon the statements released by head of the agency Saleh Al-Fadhalah.

CSRSIR sent the list of names of nearly 20,000 Bedoun in the last two months for DNA tests, coinciding with dozens of Twitterers who had abused the Amir, and the participants of chaotic night marches, besides those involved in criminal cases across Kuwait.

Based on these developments, the Fingerprints Department is compelled to extend the dates of DNA test for Bedoun to March, April and May 2014, while a number of this category are complaining and seeking influential figures to intervene on their behalf.
