Rain, thunderstorms expected to continue Wednesday, says expert ‘No significant change in weather pattern’

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 25: Kuwait has received moderately more rainfall this year than last year, but there has not been any significant change in the weather pattern, says Mohammad Karam, Director of Kuwait Meteorological Department.

Karam was talking to the Arab Times Tuesday when conditions were wet and cloudy in the state. Rain and thunderstorms will continue until Wednesday morning, he added and warned that some areas in Kuwait could witness heavy showers, causing slippery roads and mild flooding. So motorists will have to be cautious while driving, although they are not discouraged from taking to the roads.

By Wednesday afternoon the wind direction will change to North Westerly, and the weather will be partly cloudy. Karam said that this is the season for rain and there’s nothing unusual about the showers.

Dust storms are not expected in the coming days, while the north westerly winds may trigger a cool air mass, causing mild haze across Kuwait. Air mass is a large volume of air spread over an area of land with uniform properties like temperature and humidity.

Haziness can affect visibility, but not significantly as to impact traffic. The meteorological department’s website predicted for Wednesday morning unstable with moderate to fresh westerly to north westerly wind at speeds of 25 to 45 km/h with a chance for scattered rain and thunder at times. By night there will be cold moderate north westerly winds.
