Eateries at Gulf Street to vacate

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 22: The Touristic Enterprises Company (TEC) has informed all restaurants, adjacent to the coast of the Arabian Gulf Street, that it has no interest in renewing their contracts for a future period, and has asked the owners to vacate their respective places within six months, reports Al-Qabas daily.

The sources indicated the decision came as a ‘surprise’. Those affected will be well-known restaurants. The decision from the TEC came as a bolt from the blue without prior warning or explanation.

It has been pointed out this step was taken after it became evident that the main investors had leased out the places to subcontractors. The original contract is linked directly with the State Property Department of the Ministry of Finance, which owns the land where the restaurants have been built.

Sources pointed out lawyers representing a number of investors are now negotiating the ‘projects’, and plan to file lawsuits to stop this arbitrary decision.
