Indian assoc cancels annual festival due to death threats Event aims to preach Christianity: MP

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 14: An Indian association in Kuwait cancelled its annual festival, which was due to be held at Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh garden after the organizers of the event received death threats from an unknown individual.

An official from the Tourism Projects Department revealed that an unknown individual stormed into the venue during the preparation of the event and threatened to murder them if they proceeded with the event, claiming that the event contained evangelical sessions.

Director of Farwaniya Security Major General Abdul Fattah Al-Ali rushed to the location with a group of securitymen when they received information about the threat, indicating that the Ministry of Interior was devoted to ensure the event was carried out particularly since the organizers had fulfilled the necessary requirements to organize the festival. However, even though the ministry provided the organizers with security and support, the latter decided to cancel the event to avoid future problems.

Head of Tourism Projects Department affirmed that the event takes place annually and have neither evangelical nor religious sessions.

Meanwhile, MP Waleed Al-Tabtabaei posted in his Twitter account that Indian evangelists had rented the grounds for KD 12,000 to host an annual festival that aims to preach Christianity in Kuwait.

MP Tabtabaei called for the event to be stopped, adding that leaflets to attract Indian Muslim community were distributed in a bid to encourage them to abandon Islam and convert to Christianity.

In the meantime, news about the event was circulated in social networking sites with calls to protest against the event, indicating that the guest of honor Anil Kumar, was planning to share a testimony of the wife and daughter of an Indian minister who converted from Hinduism to Christianity.
