Six psychiatric hospitals to be established in Kuwait: Khodari ‘British team to supervise treatment’

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 11: Psychiatric units will be established soon in six specialized centers in primary care clinics, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily quoting Head of Kuwait Me-ntal Health Center Dr Sulaiman Al-Kh-odari.

Al-Khodari disclosed six psychologists from the center will be appointed in the clinics to ease procedures for those with psychological problems and their families. He said this is part of the Ministry of Health’s development program to better serve the public.

According to Al-Khodari, the project will be implemented under the supervision of Health Minister Dr Ali Al-Obeid with the assistance of acting Undersecretary Dr Khaled Al-Sehlawi.

He explained the project is aimed at encouraging people with psychological problems to seek treatment. He affirmed the patients should not be afraid as the centers will ensure the confidentiality of their data.
He added the treatment procedures will be supervised by a well-trained British medical team whose members will be chosen from the best European universities.

Al-Khodari said another team was formed to make the necessary changes in the outline of the project prior to implementation. He disclosed family doctors have been trained to deal with minor psychological problems. He added the ministry will provide public health centers with medicines for various psychological disorders.
