Labor to issue visas for varsity degree holders, ‘tech qualified’ Bid to work in Kuwait’s vital sectors

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 8: The Labor Sector of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor is in the process of issuing work permits for people with university degrees and those holding technical qualifications to work in vital sectors of the country.

Sources were quoted as saying these activities are specified according to the Ministerial Decree Number 136/2001 and with administrative circulars attached in that regard.

Sources explained those activities have been specified by the ministry to facilitate the issuance of work permits for employers recruiting workers from abroad and as per regulations, the list of names of the applicants would be forwarded to the committee in-charge for approval.

The set of conditions specified in the ministerial decree covers the companies with capital not below half a million dinars and not above one million dinars-as indicated in the Memorandum of Association. The companies must have been in existence for more than two years.

It also includes companies listed on the Bourse and closed joint stock companies with capital not exceeding one million dinars, employees working on government contracts and government-owned establishments such as, hospitals, medical centers, clinics, pharmacies, laboratories, banks and insurance companies.

Also on the list are exchange companies approved by the Kuwait Central Bank and Holding Companies, the agents of airlines and car dealers, rental and leasing companies for aircraft, as well as companies classified by the Kuwait Municipality as providers and not suppliers in category A and B.

It covers companies classified by the Central Tenders Committee and authorized dealers for international brands, institutions and companies specialized in the Fire Services as specified by the Directorate General of Fire Services, in addition to the health clubs and institutes.

The decision allows the issuance of work permits for the owners of cattle, goldsmith, security guards of investment and commercial real estate companies.

In the meantime, other categories of professions would be added to the list depending on the decision of the ministry’s undersecretary and the Committee for Work Affairs.
