Constitution to regain dignity
THE CONSTITUTION and the law guarantee the dignity and the reverence of the State before anything else. These are the pillars on which rests the mechanism of relationship — a relationship between the state and its people and the people themselves. Therefore, the Constitution is not an opinion, but rather a social political contract which has been composed and agreed upon by the people of certain community.
The Constitution can neither be cancelled nor revoked just because of a casual parliamentary majority. It cannot be replaced with a point of view or opinion. Its revision or rather a review cannot be based on certain points of views. Even the law is not something to take pride of, rather it is a tool with the help of which the security of nations and entities is preserved. That is why countries render their constitutions formidability because any negligence in respect for the Constitution or the law which binds relationships between people will no doubt lead to prevalence of jungle law.
“Unfortunately, we will be forced to keep reminding people of this unquestionable fact and perhaps for even a thousand times especially after the recent incidents which our country went through. The painful incidents led HH the Amir to insist upon the new government to stringently implement the law equally on every one without exception. Kuwait is a state of law and institutions and it cannot be turned overnight into arena for sectarian mobs and tribes to snatch the rights and privileges and immunities of others which have been bestowed upon them by the Constitution. Such a scenario was visualized by a majority of Kuwaitis when law enforcement authorities turned a blind eye to some violations which had been committed by the community which produced a Parliament with lot of ‘extremism’ as a result of imaginary heroism which accompanied the outlaws.
The outlaws gave some people political momentum, thinking they can consolidate the ideology and open the door for everyone to challenge others. Even some of them did not hesitate to announce their agendas which would hold Kuwait hostage and put it at the mercy of absurdness and haphazardness; unconcerned of the 50 years of democratic experience of Kuwait.
Beginning with the condemned act of dishonoring some tribes, setting ablaze election headquarters, storming the TV station offices and aggression on special security forces, which ended with the condemned provocation of animosity between religious sects and even between Kuwaitis, this was followed by speeches which were full of intimidations and threats aimed at disobeying the law which would subsequently make it easy for them to wreck the country and topple it.
Everyone collectively agreed on protecting the dignity and reverence of the country and folding the ‘dark pages’ so that our history pages do not become facts which will be used in our country’s obituary. That is why the people of Kuwait always look forward to the wisdom of HH the Amir to put the things back on its right course. Then in his opening speech to the 14th Legislative term of the National Assembly HH the Prime Minister carried glad tidings for the people of Kuwait to regain the ‘lost’ dignity and reverence of the country through stringent implementation of the law so that the country does not become an arena for sectarian and tribal ‘feuds’.
HH the Prime Minister has pledged to preserve Kuwait’s peace and stability. There will be, he said, no compromises or favorable transactions or compensation at the expense of the state and its people.
He warned, if that happens, then the citizens will be once again living in the world of anxiety pondering over their future and destiny, which will impair the implementation of development projects in the absence of security and law. This will throw Kuwait at the mercy of jungle law and “that is what we never wish for.”
