‘Cabinet line-up expected to be announced next week’ KLA urges newly elected MPs to fulfill their promises
KUWAIT CITY, Feb 7, (Agencies): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s wisdom would steer Kuwait to “safety and security,” information minister Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah said Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters after the inauguration of an exhibition of photography for Hamed Al-Ameeri themed “Kuwait is Beautiful,” Sheikh Hamad anticipated announcement of the new cabinet middle of next week.
He commended the photos displayed in the exhibition and said they were linking the past with future.
Al-Ameeri said the exhibition coincided with national celebrations in Kuwait.
He said he was displaying 60 photos about Kuwait’s history, economy, policy and other beautiful scenes.
Meanwhile, the newly elected MPs must know the importance of the votes they got from the electorate and work hard not to deceive the people, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily quoting the Kuwait Lawyers Association (KLA).
In a press statement released by the association after the official announcement of winners in the legislative elections, KLA Secretary Nasser Al-Kariwin urged the new parliamentarians to fulfill their promises and work in the interest of the citizens. He pointed out conflicts and isolation are the sources of agitation; thereby, stunting economic growth to the detriment of the people. He hopes the new Parliament will do its best to protect national welfare and push the development wheels forward under the leadership of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
In the meantime, MP-elect of the first constituency Hussein Al-Qallaf has vowed to see the approval of laws that guarantee women rights in their appointment to leadership positions based upon qualification and experience, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Al-Qallaf is ready to work on preserving the Constitution to fulfill the hope and ambitions of Kuwaitis, the daily added. In a statement, he noted the need for coordination between the Executive and Legislative bodies to maintain political stability, while improving services in all fields related to citizens’ welfare. He also urged the government to implement law on all without bias, and fight all kinds of administrative and financial corruption.
MP Obaid Al-Wasmi recently took an oath in front of his constituents in Jahra, ahead of the opening legislative session slated for Feb 15, reports Al-Qabas daily.
In a press statement, Al-Wasmi explained the lawmakers should first take an oath in front of their constituents because they are the source of all powers. He said if he commits a mistake, the people should advice him or point out his misdeeds; but if he does something right, they must stand firm by his side for the country to achieve its development goals and to ensure justice for all.
Confirming that combating corruption is his top priority, Al-Wasmi hopes for the total eradication of this social menace. He asserted the populace should activate their role in reforming the country, considering they elected their representatives in the Parliament. He added the citizens must coordinate their efforts and work with the authorities for the entire nation to succeed in its fight against corruption.
Meanwhile, former Deputy Premier for Economic Development and Housing Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad confirmed he wouldn’t join the coming government, reports Al-Shahid daily.
Sheikh Ahmad said he’s not hooked on becoming a member of the new government, and “I will turn down any offer in that regard”, he indicated.
On behalf of the Parliamentary Development and Reform Bloc, MP-elect Dr Waleed Al-Tabtabaei has announced the decision to vote on the side of MP Ahmad Al-Sa’adoun and MP Khalid Al-Sultan for the Speaker of Parliament and Deputy Speaker of Parliament posts respectively, reports Al-Kuwaitiya daily.
Al-Tabtabaei also cancelled a reception for his voters to show solidarity with afflicted people of Syrian. He also called upon the organizers of “Hala February” festival to cancel all musical concerts planned for the event.
