KUWAIT CITY, Feb 7: Outstanding over the net drop shots and smashes were the order of the day when Filipino Badminton Association in Ahmadi (FBAA) – one of the best badminton organizations in the country – opened their 23rd Conference 7th Toyo Tires Cup at the Fahaheel Sports Club. The tournament, which after the first day of matches saw Giordano and McDonalds take the top two spots, will run for six weeks – from Feb 3 to March 9.

There are 7 classes in this event: Category 1–Men’s A, Category 2 – Men’s B, Category 3 – Men’s Lower B and Men’s Higher C-1, Category 4 – Men’s Higher C-2, Category 5 – Men’s Lower C-1 and Ladies A-1, Category 6 – Men’s Lower C-2 and Ladies A-2 and Category 7 – Ladies B and Men’s Lower C3.

Giordano vs Parsons
Giordano achieved 4-3 wins and scored 49-35 points against Worley Parsons.
In Category-1, Sheikh and Marvin brushed aside Joel and Jong 15-13, 15-12 while Tony and Marlad tamed Ron and Joel in back to back sets 15-12, 15-12, Sheikh and Tony thumped Joenel and Ron 21-9, 21-12. Worley Parsons scored through Jong and Joel who beat Marvin and Marlad 15-8, 15-13.
Category-2 saw Arj and Sang blend well on the courts and overwhelm Roman and Victor 15-9, 15-11 while Joel and Roma overcame Nicols and Annie 16-14, 15-7 and Sang with Roma outclassed Victor and Annie 15-11, 15-8. Roman and Nicols saved the day for Parsons when they edged Arj and Joel in a seesaw battle 15-10, 9-15, 15-13.

Worley Parsons pulled off a landslide victory in Category-3 when the pair of James and Jeanette outlasted Alvin and Benjie 15-11, 12-15, 15-13 while Danny and Eric tamed Franklin and Jonathan 15-9, 15-13, James and Danny were made to sweat before they could beat Alvin and Franklin 11-15, 16-14, 16-14 and the tandem of Jeanette and Eric pressed on the accelerator in the last two sets to edge Benjie and Jonathan 13-15, 15-8, 15-12.
In Category 4, Worley Parsons showed some real class when they completed a total victory through Jun and Rico who beat Nihar and Sultan 14-16, 15-3, 15-12 while Cheyenne and Noel outlasted Modesto and Jovie in a seesaw battle 15-7, 14-16, 15-13, Jun and Cheyenne hammered Nihar and Modesto 15-10, 15-7 and Rico with Noel edged Sultan and Jovie in 3 extended sets 11-15, 17-15, 15-9.

Giordano retaliated in Category 5 through Vicente and Ryan who outlasted Jeremy and Danilo 15-9, 11-15, 15-12 while Sang and Belinda pressed on the accelerator in the final 2 sets and edged Gren and Beng 11-15, 15-8, 15-12, Vicente and Sang beat Jeremy and Gren 11-15, 15-11, 15-11 and the pair Ryan and Belinda outclassed Danilo and Beng 15-9, 15-8.
Giordano and Parsons got 2 wins each.Giordano won through Beth and Sanse who edged Daisy and Arlene 13-15, 16-14, 15-11 while Jenny and Sanse overcame Beng and Arlene 16-14, 17-15. Once again, Giordano claimed a landslide victory in Category 7 after Welmyn and Jimmy outclassed Marilou and Hammie 15-11, 15-9 while Tanette and Luisa thumped Nelia and Nancy 15-13, 15-10, Welmyn and Tanette edged Marilou and Nelia 15-12, 11-15, 15-8 and Jimmy with Luisa outlasted Hammie and Nancy in one of the mouthwatering clashes that day 19-17, 18-19, 15-9.

McDonalds vs AlMailen
In Category-1, Almailem pulled together a 3-1 win against McDonalds through Carlo and Ed who beat Sherwin and Allan 13-15, 15-11, 15-5,while Gerry and Arnel edged Francis and Jaypee 14-16, 15-13, 15-7 and the tandem of Ed and Arnel outlasted Allan and Jaypee. McDonalds scored through Sherwin and Francis when they overcame Carlo and Gerry 15-10, 17-15.
Category 2 saw McDonalds achieve a landslide victory as Anthony and Hans brushed aside Janette and James 17-15, 15-9 while Arnie and Cheryl overwhelmed Jet and Cesar 15-10, 15-6, Anthony and Arnel outlasted Janette and Jet 12-15, 15-5, 15-13 and the pair of Hans and Cheryl overpowered James and Cesar 15-10, 15-13.
Category 3 witnessed JR and Aldrin thump Jemmo and Jorge 15-9, 15-13 while Lloyd and Anne edged Regina and Freddie 15-6, 12-15, 15-6, JR and Lloyd tamed Jemmo and Regina 15-8, 15-11 and Aldrin with Anne outclassed Jorge and Freddie 15-12, 15-11.

McDonalds and Almailem got two 2 wins each in Category 4. McDonalds scored through Mark and Celso who brushed aside Shabbir and Eric 15-11, 15-13 while Martin and Melissa crushed Lorie and John 15-7, 15-8. Almailem retaliated through Shabbir and Lorie who edged Mark and Martin 6-15, 15-11, 15-11 while Eric with John outlasted Celso and Melissa 10-15, 15-12 15-12.
Almailem reigned in Category 5 with a 3-1 win handed by Rhandy and Rhyan who hammered Gerry and Michael 15-11, 15-6 while Gay and Elsie beat Jellica and Beng 15-13, 7-15, 15-8 and Rhyan with Elsie edged Michael and Beng 11-15, 15-9, 15-13. Once again in Category 6 both team had 2 wins each. Neither team proved to be an easy prey Category 7 which saw them again tied with 2 wins each. McDonalds won through Maureen and Yvone who edged Robert and Rushe 18-16, 8-15, 15-11 while Bien and Yvonne thrashed Marivic and Rushe 15-6, 15-7. Almailem bounced back through Kristine and Marivic who won by default against Cherry and Bien while Kristine and Robert overpowered Bien and Maureen 15-10, 15-5.

AMEC vs Toyo Tires
Toyo Tires put together a total victory in Category 1 through Joms and Joshua who edged Albert and Forp 15-13, 15-17, 15-10 while Sunil and Glenn overcame Eduard and Norman 15-13, 16-14, Joms and Sunil edged Albert and Eduard 15-14, 3-15, 16-14 and Joshua with Glenn hammered Forp and Norman 15-5, 15-8.
In category 2 , both the teams had 2 wins each. Toyo scored through Anthony and Rio who outlasted Gene and Kenjie 15-11, 12-15, 15-10 while Anthony and Glenn beat Gene and Adrian 15-10, 13-15, 15-12. Later that day, Giordano saw the going to their liking when they scored a 41-34 victory over Amec.
Category 1 saw them level with 2 wins each. Giordano claimed victory through Tony and Marlad who edged Eduard and Norman while Sheikh and Tony brushed aside Albert and Eduard 15-10, 15-4. Amec bounced back through Albert and Forp who outlasted Sheikh and Marvin 13-15, 15-10, 15-6 while Forp and Norman beat Marvin and Marlad 6-15, 15-6, 16-14.
Neither team proved to be an easy rival that again saw them finish with 2 wins each in Category 2. Parsons acquired a 43-41 point victory against McDonalds after some really tough matches.
