Court acquits Al-Wasmi of all charges in State Security case Ex-MPs wives queried in ‘millions deposit’ issue

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 6: The Criminal Court presided over by Counselor Adel Al-Huwaidi yesterday acquitted MP Dr Obaid Al-Wasmi of all charges which were filed against him by the State Security in relation to the Dr Jama’an Al-Harbash Diwaniya incident which happened on Dec 8, 2010.
Defense attorney Al-Hamid Al-Subei’e said after the verdict the charges against his client were fabricated by the Ministry of Interior.
Lawyer Al-Hamid now will follow up the charges filed by Dr Al-Wasmi against some individuals in the Interior and State Security, for assaulting him, at the seminar that was held at the Al-Harbash Diwaniya.
The Public Prosecution had charged Dr Al-Wasmi with six counts — four of them were in relation to national security matters, instigating rebellion within security men, spreading false rumors about internal situation in Kuwait and participation in gathering whose objectives was to breach public peace.
He was also accused of humiliating securitymen. He was also accused of violating the Gathering Law, especially in relation to Article 20 and 21 on issues related to demonstrations and processions which are against the law.

Ex-MPs wives queried: The Public Prosecution interrogated the wives of two former MPs in the multimillion dinars deposit case and released them without bail, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The former MPs are believed to be involved in the scandal and their wives were interrogated for the repeated transfers of large sums of money into their bank accounts.
The State Security service is said to have interrogated the sons of a number of suspects in the case at the request of the Public Prosecution.
In the case of one former MP, his son and his secretary kept transferring funds into his account, said sources.
