Interior to relax conditions for obtaining driving licences

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 6: Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs in the Ministry of Interior Dr Mustapha Al-Zuabi says the sector will present a proposal that eases the conditions for obtaining driving license to the Deputy Premier, Minister of Interior and Defense Sheikh Ahmad Al-Hamoud, reports Al-Anba daily.

According to the proposal, licenses will be issued to holders of certificates that are above intermediate level, as well as those residing in the country for one year instead of two years the ministry had approved earlier. Also, expatriates born in Kuwait will be entitled to driving licenses, even if they do not hold university degree. However, the KD 400 salary condition will remain, the daily noted.

In an interview with the daily, Al-Zuabi said the proposal includes penalties for traffic violations, which involves the crossing of red signal and excessive speeding, indicating violators will be fined KD 500, in addition to 90 days imprisonment term or above. The penalty for plying passengers or driving vehicles with faulty brakes will be KD 100, Al-Zuabi indicated.
