Doors open for unemployed citizens to apply for jobs Period for receiving jobless allowances extended

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 4: As per decision of the Council of Ministers, the Government Manpower and Restructur-ing Program and State Executive Authority will Sunday open its doors to citizens who were laid off from the private sector to apply for new jobs, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
The daily noted that the decision also facilitates extension of the period of receiving unemployment allowances from the government by additional six months rather than 18 months decided upon earlier.
The Deputy Secretary of Manpower Restructuring Affairs and Head of Unemployment Commission Fawzi Al-Majdali added that the Council of Ministers Decision Number 75/2012 amends Decision Number 675/2009 that stipulates allowances for citizens laid off by private companies, indicating the 18-month period in which unemployed citizens are entitled to allowances has been extended by additional six months.
Al-Majdali explained that 133 citizens have completed their 18 months period of getting allowances, and the commission also received a total of 1,573 applicants of which 1,217 have been accepted, whereas 19 applicants did not complete their forms. He mentioned that the number of unemployed citizens receiving allowances is 389 — including 218 male and 171 female.
Meanwhile, he invites citizens who wish to extend their unemployment allowance period to visit their offices in person with original job termination letter, original Civil ID and a copy, in addition to clearance from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry that testifies the applicant has no income generating project.
