Education minister vows action on students, parents grievances Scope TV for probe in law violation

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 2: The Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Ahmed Al-Mulaifi has promised to convene a meeting within two weeks to discuss a report issued by the committee comprising personnel from the Kuwait University, the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training and Kuwait Teachers Association, reports Al-Anba daily.
Al-Mulaifi disclosed this during a meeting with the students affected by the tough question papers during second term of the first semester exams and their parents.
He informed the meeting will review the exam papers and grades awarded to students of Grade 10 and 12 in the unified exams.
Meanwhile, the daily said the parents are keen to know the mechanism for issuing grades, the manner of setting question papers and allotting marks.
In another development, Minister of Information Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali says the ministry is studying adequate legal procedures to refer Scope satellite channel to the public prosecution for violating audio-visual law, reports Al-Jarida daily.
Sheikh Hamad affirmed the ministry is keen on applying audio-visual law on all without exception, hence adequate legal procedures will be taken against violators.
According to Print and Publication Law, Ministry of Information has no authority to revoke licenses or close any satellite channel or daily newspaper violating the law, stressing the final decision remains with the judiciary.
In yet another issue, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Jassem Ashkanani has issued a decision to form a committee to what he called ‘remedy the administrative and financial situation at the Sawaber Cooperative Society, reports Al-Dar daily.
According to reports the accumulated complaints filed against the society by some companies account for at least KD 100,000.
However, the committee will work to solve the problem in cooperation with other cooperative societies.
