Kuwait celebrates 6th anniv. of Sheikh Sabah’s proclamation as Amir Information minister hails Amir as unique leader
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 28, (KUNA): The State of Kuwait celebrates on Sunday the sixth anniversary of the proclamation of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as the Amir of the country.
On Jan 29, 2006, HH the Amir swore in at a special National Assembly session, signaling his assumption of the top post, following steps of his descendants for preserving the National Constitution, solidifying democracy and maintaining the national unity.
Such principles, bases of ruling in Kuwait, have been governing the relationship between the ruler and the ruled.
They are fruits of a political doctrine, adopted by the ancestors and inherited by their sons till today.
That what has rendered Kuwait a minaret in the Gulf and the Arab worlds.
Such values have been core issues in most, if not all, speeches of HH the Amir. On Feb 24, 2011, HH the Amir in his address that marked the 50th anniversary of independence and the 20th anniversary of Kuwait Liberation stated, “Kuwait as a homeland has never been possessed by a certain group and has never been viewed as a tribal, sectarian or factional entity.
“All the achievements that have been made are fruits of solidarity of all natives of Kuwait who have been pursuing the march of the ancestors.”
Democracy in Kuwait is a unique contract, accepted by the ruler and the ruled, HH the Amir said. “Our abidance by the democratic approach, responsible freedom is deeply rooted and is our irreversible choice, thus the Constitution is the contract we have accepted for just governing reference.”
Acknowledging that the people of Kuwait have faced some obstacles on the path for maintaining national solidarity, the Amir urged the natives to renounce chaos and fanaticism.
On June 15, the Amir in an address warned that he would no longer tolerate further chaos and bickering that would threaten security and resources of the homeland.
The National Constitution is a red line that cannot be crossed, he warned. “I have repeatedly affirmed that I protect the Constitution and that I will not allow breaching it.”
On Aug 21, the Amir addressed the people of Kuwait on the last 10 days of the fasting month of Ramadan, warning against misuse of freedoms.
He also urged the media to abstain from exaggeration and misguidance.
The Amir asserted that combating corruption was among the priorities of the government.
On Oct 25, the Amir said in a statement upon inauguration of the fourth legislative term of the National Assembly that he was dismayed with behaviors of some citizens who had become preoccupied with non-constructive issues and waging rhetorical attacks on persons, rather than focusing on actions for the development of the country.
Addressing the second Arab economic summit, held in Sharm El-Sheikh, on Jan 19, 2011, HH the Amir praised the founding of the fund for financing small enterprises in the Arab world and urged conferees to pursue efforts for resolving economic problems in the Arab countries.
On Aug 15, the Amir addressed the consultative committee noting that structural defects in the national economy were the result of misuse of excessive financial resources.
He also warned against excessive spending.
Speaking to reporters while marking the sixth anniversary of HH the Amir’s assumption of power, the minister lauded HH the Amir as a successful leader who enjoys wisdom, foresightedness, experience and ambition for building a modern prosperous Kuwait.
The sixth anniversary of HH the Amir’s accession to power falls on Sunday (Jan 29).
