Candidates highlight role of voters in charting ‘roadmap’ for Kuwait Al Mislim calls for prioritizing national unity to face challenges
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 26, (KUNA): Three candidates for the Feb 2 National Assembly (NA) elections, namely Abdullah Al-Muhailbi, Marzouq Al-Ghanem and Dr Faisal Al-Mislim, agreed Wednesday evening that the voters will play a central role in charting the road map for the coming historic period.
“The choices of the voters will determine the features of the post-election stage,” Al-Muhailbi, candidate of the First Constituency, told reporters after a seminar at his campaign premises. “The coming stage requires effective cooperation and harmony between the legislative and executive authorities,” he stressed.
“The priorities of citizens used to be ignored or replaced with tensions and conflicts which damaged the national interests,” Al-Muhailbi regretted. He urged the coming parliament and government to adopt a new approach to reforms based on understanding, transparency, the provisions of the Constitution and the national interests.
Integrity
Meanwhile, Al-Ghanem, a Second Constituency candidate, said the coming period will see Kuwait restoring her pioneering role in all fields. “The moderate approach is the right way for helping justice to prevail,” he said, urging the coming MPs to be self-righteous in order to keep their integrity and credibility. Al-Ghanem suggested launching a state-sponsored cultural center to promote arts and preserve the traditional handicraft and heritage. He also urged building the capacity of national workforce and make it compulsory for the private sector to implement vocational training courses during the summer holidays.
On his part, Al-Mislim, a Third Constituency candidate, said the choices of the voters will “portray the future of the country” through determining the setup of the coming parliament.
“If the voters don’t elect the right candidates, the outcome will be negative and the situations will remain unchanged, and vise versa,” he argued while opening his electoral campaign Wednesday evening.
Al-Mislim warned against the internal and external dangers facing the country which require stronger national unity and prioritizing the national unity over the often-changing external alliances.
Several other candidates for the elections, from various constituencies, called on the government and citizens to boost national unity, implement reform in various sectors and institutions in the country, and activate development plans into reality.
Third Constituency candidate Eisa Haji Mousa called on citizens to hold on to national unity and maintain it, stressing that it should be the key in their choices on polling day, Feb 2.
Taking care of health, economy, education, and labor for implementing development plan is one of the most important issues that should be concentrated on due to its immediate connection to citizen’s interests, as well as their daily and futuristic needs, said Mousa in a press statement.
Corruption
Mousa also added that another important issue that should be taken into consideration in this current stage is fighting the phenomenon of administrative corruption and reveal those who are involved in it to the public, warning at the same time against the spread of favoritism in institutions around the country, which is curbing and delaying work procedures for citizens.
For his part, Sheikha Al-Ghanem, a female Third Constituency candidate, stressed the importance of reform in all fields, whether political, economic, social, or educational.
Al-Ghanem said, in a press statement, that her electoral program includes a proposal to cancel the press and publication law and replace it with a law that would organize journalism profession, in addition to the freedom of thought, expression, and transparency, as well as respect others opinion under the limits of public interest.
She will work for opening of new Kuwaiti universities and increasing of academic areas of study in order to grant the opportunity to all.
Menawer Theyab Nega Al-Azmi, Fifth Constituency candidate, called on the government to rush in implementing and applying development plans which were submitted for consideration during the term of previous government.
Also, Al-Azmi urged, in a press statement, the government to resolve environment problems and relieve residents of Umm Al Haiman by forcing factory owners to observe environmental requirements.
He added that Kuwait lacks so many vital facilities such as hospitals, universities, and other educational and vocational institutions.
