Detention of 59 Bedouns, two citizens extended for 21 days Deployed security forces to be withdrawn from Taima, Sulaibiya

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 25: The Public Prosecution, supervised by Counselor Dhirar Al-Asousi, ordered the detention of 59 Bedouns and two Kuwaitis accused of participation in illegal demonstrations in Sulaibiya and Taima for 21 days at the Central Prison to complete investigations on the case.

The prosecution charged the accused with assaulting police officers, damaging police patrol cars, illegal gathering in public, defying orders to disperse and organizing illegal demonstration.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, Minister of Interior has issued a decision to stop all security measures which were adopted in the Jahra Governorate particularly the mobilization of security forces in Sulaibiya and Taima following demonstrations by Bedouns recently, reports Al-Rai daily.

The decision came after Sheikh Ahmed Al-Hmoud held a meeting which was also attended by Security Director of Jahra Major-General Al-Tarrah.

According to the decision forces will be withdrawn from the two areas.

In the meantime, Chairperson of the Central System for Remedying the Status of Illegal Residents (CSRSIR) Saleh Al-Fadhalah has said that the committee has yet to complete and forward the list of names of applicants deserving citizenship to the Council of Ministers, reports Al-Rai daily.

Al-Fadhalah added that the committee is still preparing the list of names of those who qualify for citizenship which will be submitted to Cabinet for approval, as soon as it is ready. He noted that priority will be given to Kuwaiti widows and divorcees, followed by military personnel and those with academic qualifications, assuring there would be no discrimination in that regard.

Chairman of the association of families of prisoners of war and martyrs Fayez Al-Enezi affirmed that children of Bedoun martyrs should be given priority for citizenship over all other categories, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.

He added that holding citizenship from this category of people under the pretext of security restrictions prevents them from being proud of their parents who sacrificed their lives for the sake of the country.
