Municipality launches inspection campaign ‘Four shops to face legal action’
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 14, (KUNA): Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs Dr Fadhel Safar underscored Saturday the importance of the supervisory role of Kuwait Municipality on commercial activities countrywide.
“The inspection campaigns of the municipality are not restricted to the verification of the safety of foodstuffs but also includes the safety of workers preparing and providing the foodstuffs,” the minister told KUNA.
“The inspection campaigns aim to verify that all foodstuffs meet the international standard specifications and are stored in a proper way,” he pointed out.
Dr Safar made the remarks on the sidelines of a surprise inspection campaign launched by a team from the municipality’s branch in Al-Ahmadi Governorate at the butchers shops and restaurants.
Meanwhile, Mishal Aba-Assafi, head of the team, said the campaign resulted in the destruction of 43 kilograms of meat proven to be unfit for human consumption.
“The shops involved in the irregularities have been fined,” Aba-Assafi said, noting that four shops will face a legal action for practicing unlicensed business and employing workers without health certificates.
