Legal workers stage strike, call for rights CSC tactics flayed
KUWAIT CITY, Jan 11: The Union of Employees Working for Legal Depart-ments organized a sit-in Wednesday in the presence of a number of international organizations accusing the Civil Service Commission (CSC) of failing to achieve their fair demands epitomized in modifying the ranks of their designation.
Chairman of the union Hamad Al-Wardan said the employees will continue to demonstrate until their legal demands are met. He said the committee which has been formed to study the demand should be set aside. He also indicated the importance of forming a new committee comprising primarily members of the Kuwait Trade Union Federation.
Meanwhile, Chairman of laborers working in Municipality Farraj Al-Arada has affirmed he supports the legal demands of these employees who represent a big group in all ministries.
He wondered what is preventing the CSC from modifying the names of their positions in line with the specification of each employee like the Fatwa and Legislation Department and Investigation Department.
He pointed out the legalists hold the same academic qualification and the same experience; so why are not they treated on par with their colleagues in other departments?
Meanwhile, Chairman of Arab Union for Unions of Municipalities and Tourism Mohammed Al-Arada rejected discrimination among legalists. He stressed the presence of delegations of a number of international organizations is important in the history of the union business.
Furthermore, Al-Arada demanded HH the Prime Minister to interfere and help solve the issue.
In the meantime, deputy chairman of union of laborers working at the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) Mohammed Al-Hamlan said it is sad to know the legalists who are in charge of applying justice are seeking justice for themselves. Additionally, Chairman of Committee of Requests at Kuwait Accountants Society Dr Talal Al-Suhail made clear they have been demanding for equal rights and financial pros since 2009.
“When the KD 300 increment was approved for accountants and engineers in the private sector, the increment was applied for the good of the engineers; in the meantime, it was not released for accountants,” he added.
Nawaf Sari who is contesting the elections from the fourth constituency said he was almost sure the promises made by the Cabinet and the CSC for the good of legalists were not true. Therefore, legalists should insist on their demands.
The secretary-general of Kuwait Trade Union Federation Abdulrahman Al-Ghanim said they took part in the sit-in to support the rights of the legalists, to force the government to sit at a table of negotiations to provide solutions for all problems.
In the same context, Kareem Reda, from the Bahrain Laborers Union, said the Kuwaiti government should comply with the accords signed with the international organizations.
Dr Mohammed Al-Huwailah, former MP and candidate from the fifth constituency, supported the legal rights of the legalists which the CSC deprived them of. He confirmed justice and equality are the basis for success in any institution for economic development and career balance.
This came in a press statement Al-Huwailah made in this regard, stressing legalists are the key legal support in the country and they are in charge of applying law, the principle of the Constitution and protecting the public fund as well as monitoring violations.
