Interior strikes Al-Muslim run Former MP’s verdict upheld

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 11: Reliable sources disclosed that the Committee formed by the Interior Ministry to scrutinize eligibility of candidates has decided to disqualify candidate of the Third Constituency and former MP Dr Faisal Al-Muslim from running the parliamentary election 2012 based on his conviction in the Burgan Bank case.

Former MP Dr Waleed Al-Tabtabaei told reporters that his lawyers will file a challenge lawsuit Thursday  to the Court of Cassation to reverse charges.

Meanwhile, lawyer defending Abdul-Hameed Dashti and Mohammed Al-Juwaihal an-nounced his clients will file a lawsuit against the Interior Ministry for disqualifying them from the elections.

In a related issue, Abdul-Hameed Dashti assured his voters that the decision to remove his name from the candidates list has no legal support. He added he will continue with his election campaign as if nothing has happened.

He disclosed he has petitioned the Administrative Court to annul the decision. He added the “Kuwait Constitution is clear in relation to election laws because it is not for any citizen to submit his or her election documents as long he has criminal record, and thank God I have no criminal or security restrictions”.

He said he wished his case will be solved soon locally, otherwise he will be compelled to resort to international court to regain his right, since the International Media for Human Rights in its Article 21 stipulates that any person has right to participate in managing the general affairs directly or through representatives he elected.
