Municipality ‘keen’ on tackling issue of rotten food distribution Inspection campaigns continue: official

 KUWAIT CITY, Jan 8, (KUNA): A ranking official of Kuwait Municipality indicated on Sunday that the municipality was expanding scope of surprise search of food stores and restaurants to ensure that no expired products would be sold or consumed.

Continuing inspection of the food products by the emergency inspection teams, affiliated with branches of the municipality, is pre-emptive and precautionary, said Ahmad Al-Sebeeh, the general director of Kuwait Municipality, in a statement to KUNA The municipal teams are organizing full-scale inspection missions in the country’s six governorates “according to a set mechanism that covers all the regions with the aim of enforcing the law on all,” he said, affirming firmness of clamping down on any wrong-doing or illegal acts in this respect.

Escalating the campaign of the municipality is designed to abort any bid by certain corrupt persons who might try to sell rotten food at cafes, restaurants or stores, he added.

Meanwhile, Fahad Dughaim Al-Otaibi, in charge of the municipal branch in Al-Ahmadi, said the campaign has yielded tangible results at various levels, namely in terms of checking health specifications, permits and cleanliness in addition to affiliate technical and engineering considerations.

In their latest tours, the inspection teams issued up to 144 tickets and shut down 65 stores.

Kuwait Municipality is carrying out a continuing campaign against food dealers who seek profit with trade in expired or rotten food.

Its teams have already confiscated expired food and materials, shut down law non-abiding stores and referred some merchants to relevant legal authorities.
