25 Asian & Arab expatriates held in diesel smuggling bid

 KUWAIT CITY, Jan 8: Security operatives have intercepted tanks containing about 2.5 million liters of subsidized diesel valued at KD 500,000.
According to an Interior Ministry press release, tanks full of diesel had been kept in different stores at the Abdullah Port and seven other locations, and ready to be smuggled abroad when security operatives were tipped-off.
In the meantime, 25 Asian and Arab expatriates have been arrested in connection with the issue, and investigation is on going to determine personalities and companies involved in the smuggling of diesel.
The Interior Ministry has since discovered that some officials from one of the three companies authorized to export diesel engage in smuggling activities for high proceeds. Hence, the ministry will use its resources to get to the root of the matter to control smuggling, the statement indicated.
