No spread of meningitis in country, says official Health staff blamed for Asian’s death
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 28: Undersecretary of Health Ibrahim Abdulhadi blames the concerned officials in the Public Health Department for their lackluster attitude to dealing with the recent crisis that led to the death of an Asian employee of a famous commercial complex in Al-Rai area after he had suffered meningitis infection.
Six other expatriates having symptoms of the same disease have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Farwaniya Hospital.
In a related development, the Director of Public Health Dr Yousef Mendekar maintains the ministry has recorded only two cases of meningitis in the country, adding the laboratory test discovering one of the cases proved negative to other infections.
Dr Mendekar noted that the Farwaniya Hospital discovered the two cases, and the Preventive Health Department in Farwaniya Health Region notified the concerned authorities within 24 hours. He also said the two infected people are workers who arrived in Kuwait from an Asian country Dec 19, and that the hospital placed them on admission Dec 20.
“I wish to state categorically that claims about widespread infection in Kuwait are a bundle of lies and rumor by mischievous personalities. I repeat that the ministry only recorded two of such cases”, the health director reiterated.
