Premier calls to speed up Bedouns’ list from MoD, MoI for citizenship ‘89,250 stateless persons benefit from subsidized basic supplies’

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 26: Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak has requested First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior and Minister of Defense Sheikh Ahmed Al-Hmoud to speed up with the preparation of the list of names of stateless employees working for the Defence and Interior ministries — employees who are eligible for naturalization. This list will then be submitted to the Council of Ministers for approval, reports Al-Shahed daily.
However, the same sources have disclosed the list of employees from the Ministry of Defence who are eligible was finalized a few months ago and the names have already been submitted to the concerned security agencies including the General Army Intelligence unit and the General Administration of the Criminal Evidences Department and the State Security.
The sources indicated Sheikh Ahmad Al-Hmoud has tasked Lieutenant-General Ghazi Al-Omar with the preparation of the list of ‘bedoun’ employees who can be granted the citizenship.
The sources added the bedoun who fought in the Arab wars and those who participated in the Liberation War of Kuwait in addition to those who have already spent more than 30 years with the ministry will be considered for naturalization.
Meanwhile, records of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry indicate that 89,250 Bedouns, as of May to mid-Dec 2011, have benefited from subsidized basic supplies, as part of the Amiri grant, reports Al-Kuwaitiya daily.
Meanwhile, the ministry announces that new subsidized commodities, including infant formulae and some unspecified items will be added to the commodities currently distributed to beneficiaries, after the Amiri grant period ends next March.
