More Storm MPs ‘bailed’
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 20: The Public Prosecution on Monday night released former MPs Faisal Al-Muslim, Falah A-Sawagh, Mubarak Al-Wa’alan and Salem Al-Namlan on bail of KD 3,000 each after interrogating them on charges of storming the parliament building on ‘Black Wednesday.’
Also, former MP Mohammed Al-Mutairi appeared before the prosecution Tuesday to face interrogation on the same charges.
Sources said the former MPs could face prison sentences if they are proven guilty of the charges leveled against them, which include clashing with securitymen and injuring some of them, inciting people, storming the parliament building and damaging Abdullah Al-Salem Hall.
The sources added that all the former MPs denied all the charges and cast doubts on evidence submitted against them by the Ministry of Interior. They stressed that they had stormed the building to protect the youths from the beatings of securitymen.
Earlier on Sunday, the prosecution interrogated former MPs Musallam Al-Barrak, Khaled Tahous, Waleed Tabtabaie and Jama’an Al-Harbash. Barrak faces 10 charges, while Tahous faces 9, and Tabtabaie and Harbash face 7 and 6 charges respectively. All these charges, if proven, could result in a minimum three-year prison term.
Sources expect the cases will be referred to the court because the accused MPs did not say what will exonerate them of the charges.
In another development, the Public Prosecution on Tuesday released former MP Ghanim Al-Mae’a on bail of KD 5,000 after interrogating him in the multimillion dinar deposit scandal.
The prosecution had already interrogated 12 former MPs and Al-Mae’a was the last although wives of two former MPs are expected to be interrogated in the same case.
In all, 13 former MPs were interrogated in the multimillion dinar deposit and money laundering scandal. These include Hussein Huraiti, Mikhled Azmi, Yusuf Zalzalah, Saleh Ashour, Khalid Al-Adwa, Khalaf Dumaitheer, Dulaihi Al-Hajeri, Mubarak Khurainej, Saad Zunaifeer, Saadoun Hammad, Askar Al-Enezi, Saad Al-Khanfour and Ghanem Al-Mae’a. All of them denied the charges.
Furthermore, the prosecution released former MP Musallam Al-Barrak without a bail (unconditionally) in a case filed against him by former MP Dr Rola Dashti who accused him of defaming her during a TV program.
The prosecution also released former MP Faisal Al-Duwaisan on personal guarantee in a suit filed against him by the Information Ministry which accused him of offending Saudi Arabia during an interview he gave on BBC Arabic channel. Duwaisan denied the charges.
Furthermore, the Criminal Court fined former MP Daifallah Buramiya and Editor-in-Chief of Alam-Alyawm newspaper Abdul-Hameed Al-Daas an amount of KD 10,000 in a suit filed by the Interior Ministry against them. The newspaper had published some offensive statements made by Buramiya against former Interior Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Khaled.
