Couple acquitted in fraudulent property sale Man, wife co-owners: lawyer

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 18: The Misdemeanor Court, presided over by Judge Mohammad Abu Al-Hassan, acquitted a couple of charges of fraudulent sale of government property to a Kuwaiti woman.
The charge sheet alleged that the plaintiff paid a certain amount of money as advance payment for a property the first defendant (husband) got from the government. They agreed that the woman would complete payment when the defendant received documents of the property and transferred them into the supposed buyer’s name. The plaintiff complained that when the defendant received the documents, he transferred ownership to his wife. The plaintiff accused the second defendant (wife) of connivance with her husband to dupe the former.

The defendants’ counsel Hassan Al-Ajmi argued that the second defendant was not aware of the agreement struck by the first defendant and the plaintiff on June 5th, 1996. He explained that the wife was co-owner of the property, according to the document registered at the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) which had handed the property to them as a family.
