Storm MPs to face grilling - An honor, says Tabtabaie

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 16: Nine former MPs who have been summoned by the Public Prosecution for their role in the storming of the Parliament last month are expected to appear before the prosecution on Sunday, sources told the Arab Times.

These former MPs — Musallam Al-Barrak, Faisal Al-Muslim, Waleed Al-Tabtabaie, Jama’an Al-Harbash, Mubarak Al-Wa’alan, Khaled Al-Tahous, Falah Al-Sawagh, Salem Al-Namlan and Mohammad Al-Mutair — were among the hundreds of protesters who stormed the parliament after a clash with security forces last month. Sources expect the former MPs to be released on bail after their interrogation like their colleagues who were interrogated in the multimillion dinar deposit scandal.

Al-Tabtabaie said it is an honor for them to be tried in this case. “We carried out a political movement against the corrupt government and the bribe-taking parliament. The storming of the parliament incident was blown out of proportion in order to achieve certain goals, but everything is clear to everyone now,” he said.
Mubarak Al-Wa’alan, reacting to the news, said “We are honored to stand before the Public Prosecution on charges of storming the parliament. We have nothing to hide.”

He added that the interrogation will be like a medal on their chest and will add to their prestige, unlike for those who entered the Public Prosecution on charges of money laundering.

The MPs face charges of storming the parliament and damaging public property.

Some of the activists have already been questioned by the Public Prosecution and released on bail. All the former lawmakers have denied charges of breaking into the parliament and say they opened the doors of the parliament chamber after they were set on by the security forces.
