‘Fingerprinting’ at airport helps expose 1,200 people ‘Borders’ to have machines

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 12: Major advancement has been made with the use of fingerprint machine the Criminal Investigation Department presented to the airport authority. An estimated 1,200 people from different nationalities carrying fake passports and others banned from entering Kuwait upon previous deportations were discovered by machines at the individual identification unit in the airport, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily.
Sources said the machine was loaded with data of all expatriates in Kuwait, under the supervision of top officers of the department, before presenting it to the airport immigration authority. The authority had in April 2011 activated the machine, and all expatriates arriving or departing from Kuwait have since been fingerprinted to reveal their real identities. Sources noted that many of those exposed are of Asian nationalities that were later referred to the concerned authority.

Meanwhile, based on successful trial of the machine, plans are underway to implement the system at the land and sea borders, once data on the machine is connected to the immigration departments and units in the Commerce Ministry, Public Authority for Civil Information, military centers and other vital government agencies, sources indicated.
