CSC completes study on salaries ‘Customs officers fed up with situation’

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 7: The Civil Service Commission (CSC) has completed a comprehensive study on the salaries of workers in ministries and other government agencies not covered by pay and allowance increment schemes approved earlier, reports Al-Rai daily quoting sources.

Sources revealed the commission has recommended 15 percent salary increment and additional benefits for those with rare fields of specialization and stressful jobs to ensure the fair implementation of the nature of work policy.

In another development, the Chairperson of the Workers Union at the General Customs Department Ahmad Aqla Al-Enezi warned the CSC will bear the responsibility for toying with the proposed salary increment for customs officers.

He argued the commission and its board have no right to determine the amount of increment. He said the customs officers are fed up with the situation, so their voices will not be heard again but they will take the necessary action in the next few days.

He clarified the union had postponed their protest plans because the acting finance minister had earlier promised to approve the proposed increment. He accused the interim government of deliberately delaying approval of the proposal.
