Accusations continue among MPs over million deposit scam Lawmakers in sectarian showdown
KUWAIT CITY, Dec 3: Arguments, accusations and counter accusations continue among the lawmakers on the multimillion deposits scam, as MP Dr Aseel Awadhi declared “we are waiting patiently for the bribe givers and takers to face trial.” She called on “ghost lawmakers to surrender themselves to the public prosecution, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
Reacting to the issue, MP Mohammed Al-Huwailah called on the new premier to confront the scandal. He refuted rumor that he’s unclean and said he was the one who brought the issue to the forefront and signed in support of setting up a parliamentary committee to investigate the issue with the Central Bank, as well as a special session to discuss the issue.
On her part, MP Dr Maasouma Al-Mubarak berated her colleagues for unrepentant enmity, which she stressed reflects the lack of religion, ethics and manners differing with others. She said if rumor peddlers and character assassinators think they won’t be brought to account or retaliated against, then they are mistaken, cowards and not men enough.”
Legal
In a statement, Al-Mubarak said she was going to institute legal proceedings against rumor mongers who attempted to defame her. She called on the public prosecution to hasten findings on the multimillion dinar deposits scandal to put fake heroism of dubious noblemen in the open.
Meanwhile, it was sectarian showdown among the lawmakers when MP Saleh Al-Ashour called on the Gulf nations that supported the revolution in Yemen, Libya, and Syria to get prepared to embrace a constitutional monarchy with an elected popular government, as practiced in Holland and Denmark, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
The statement stirred MP Dr Waleed Al-Tabtabaei who reacted by stressing that the corrupt Iranian regime would be uprooted by Islamist Spring. He also said that Sunnis have co-existed with Shiites in what he calls ‘one-sided love’. MP Hussein Al-Qallaf fired back at MP Tabtabaei and said he should keep his mouth, hands and arrow away from Shiites “who do not need his love anyway”.
Belated
More condemnation followed MP Al-Ashour’s statement, as several lawmakers including Mohammed Hayef said his call is belated and borne out of fear of the fall of Syria.
For his part, MP Mohammed Al-Mutair said the statement was worthless, while Falah Al-Sawagh also pointed out that the Gulf nations are stable, and that the Arab Spring continues. He noted those regimes are citizen welfare oriented, with great deal of freedom and dignity, which are capable of deposing corrupt leaders.
Meanwhile, MP Hussein Qallaf has said that those among the ruling family rejoicing over the resignation of Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed are going to regret in future.
He maintained they deliberately contributed to an incident that would only produce tears in future. He went on to praise the former premier for his democratic characteristics.
