‘7 Kuwaitis among 500 top Muslim personalities’

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 3: The Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center in Jordan has named seven Kuwaitis in its business, Quranic recitation, media, and women rights personalities among other 500 influential Muslim personalities in the globe for 2011, reports Al-Anba daily.
The center placed late business mogul Nasser Al-Khorafi on top of the group, where he had previously won an evergreen medal for humanity, charity and contributions to relief agencies from the Jordanian King Abdullah in 2005.
Imam of the Grand Mosque Sheikh Meshari Al-Afasi became popular globally with the use of technology in Islamic propagation, as well as support for religious awareness on two satellite channels and YouTube.
The Chairperson of the Islamic satellite channel Iqra, Jassem Al-Mutawa was included in the category for his presentation of programs relating to the cultural, socio-economic and spiritual issues in the Islamic perspective.
The founder and executive chairperson of Media Composition Dr Nayef Al-Mutawa also made the list for publishing the Islamic Collection in a manner that attracts readers. The compilation has been rated among the 20 most popular collections in the world. Another personality on the list was founder of the Gulf Consultancy and Training Creativity Company and head of Islamic satellite channel Al-Resalah Tareq Al-Suwaidan.
Among the women category is a Kuwaiti lawmaker and representative of women’s rights elected with four other women in 2009. She had been active in agitating for women’s full participation in elections in 2005.
Finally, the Deputy Board Chairperson of National Bank and Egypt, head of Kuwait Investment Company Sheikha Al-Bahar who is in charge of more than $16 billion banking investment and loan was included in the category.
