Assembly secretary hits out at MPs over Parliament criticism ‘Focus on achieving political gains’

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 2: Secretary of the National Assembly MP Adnan Abdul-Samad has denounced the repeated criticism leveled by some lawmakers on the parliament office’s decision to report the storming incident to police, reports Al-Shahed daily.
Reacting to the constant attacks and instigation against the office by some lawmakers, Abdul-Samad said “achieving political gains and thirst for the speakership of the parliament at the expense of national interests are the motives of those lawmakers.” He said what cannot be forgiven is the violation of the Constitution, breaking of law and exploitation of the misplaced zealousness of youths.
Meanwhile, MP Khalaf Al-Dumaitheer warned about the actions of some elements who are exploiting freedoms and democracy to push the country to the brink of collapse, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. He said care must be taken not to allow personal gains, power and money dictate affairs in the coming period. While admitting that politics is all about interests and that there are no permanent friends or foes in the field, he urged everyone to make the nation their top priority.
In related news, the immunity of lawmakers accused of storming into the legislative building will be lifted automatically once the National Assembly is dissolved to pave the way for their arrest and interrogation, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily quoting sources.
Sources said the procedures taken by the criminal investigators in dealing with the other suspects will be used in the case of these lawmakers, who will be summoned for interrogation and arrested if they fail to show up.
In another development, MP Jamaan Al-Harbash has filed a complaint against the editor-in-chief of an online newspaper at the Sulaibikhat Police Station for allegedly defaming him.
Meanwhile, sources said SMS messages have been sent to Bedouns, calling them to come out en masse to protest in Taima, Sulaibiya, Ahmadi and Sulaibikhat. Sources disclosed the text says 10 opposition lawmakers will lead the street protests.
