‘MPs playing crucial role in combating corruption’ Govt criticized for breaking into tribe members house

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 29:  MP Falah Al-Sawagh has lauded the opposition MPs for playing a crucial role in combating corruption, describing them as the defenders of Kuwait and truth, reports Al-Anba daily.
Speaking at the recently-concluded gathering of Al-Awazem tribe in his diwaniya with the attendance of Falah Bin Jame’e — head of the tribe, Al-Sawagh asked his fellow tribesmen to expel him from the National Assembly if they see him involved in shameful activities.  He asserted he will not allow any of the tribe and ruling family members or anyone from spreading corruption.

On the other hand, Bin Jame’e criticized the government for breaking into the house of the tribe members and for granting the speakership to Jassem Al-Khorafi.  He said the tribe will take back its rights, adding the MPs, who belong to the tribe and have been implicated in the multimillion deposit scandal, must be held accountable, especially since they have tarnished the image of the tribe.

Meanwhile, the resignation of the government may lead to three scenarios — cancellation of the grilling on the multimillion deposit scam and questionable money transfers, lifting the immunity of nine MPs accused of involvement in the Parliament building break-in, and empowering the next prime minister to form the new government, reports Al-Seyassah daily quoting the constitutional and legal experts.
According to the experts, the abovementioned scenarios may happen unless the National Assembly is dissolved.  They explained the request for lifting the immunity of the nine MPs will be based on the argument that the Parliament will not hold its sessions in the coming days, so its reply will not be submitted to the Public Prosecution within 30 days.  This leads to the automatic lifting of the immunity as stated in Article 11 of the Constitution, they added.

On the formation of the new government, the experts said it is not necessary for the next prime minister to appoint new Cabinet members within the specified period because the formation does not take place after a parliamentary election.

Meanwhile, Al-Anba daily has quoted Law Professor at Kuwait University Dr Mohammad Al-Feli as saying that the grilling request against Sheikh Nasser on the multimillion deposit scandal can still be submitted to the Parliament in case he is reappointed as prime minister.

He added if the new government takes a decision on the scandal, then the lawmakers have the right to grill it on the issue.
Moreover, the Nation Party called for the formation of a popular government and implementation of the single constituency system to overcome the current political crisis.
In a recent press statement, the party argued it is better if the people are allowed to choose members of the government to ensure the implementation of genuine political reforms.  They also appealed to the political and youth activists to coordinate their efforts to lay down a clear vision for Kuwait, in addition to granting more privileges and freedom to the people.
