‘Citizens can express views freely without breaking law’ MPs must be jailed, not youths: Islamist
KUWAIT, Nov 27, (Agencies): All Kuwaitis have the right to express their opinions in the square opposing the National Assembly building but in a way that does not violate law nor civilized manners, the Interior Ministry said Sunday.
It said in a statement the sea-front square, across the street from the parliament, should not be used in ways other than the purposed ones, holding of rallies.
“Any violation of legal rules or administrative measures will be dealt with in coordination with the authorities concerned in a way that safeguards safety and security of people inside the square,” which has been dubbed the “square of the will, warned the ministry.
This nation is for all Kuwaitis, it said. The ministry, added the statement, “does not doubt their (Kuwaitis) love and loyalty for their precious nation.” The ministry hoped everybody inside the square would cooperate with the security forces for the sake of general security.
From behind bars Islamist Mubarak Al-Bathali said the opposition MPs who recently incited the youth to storm the National Assembly building must surrender to the Public Prosecution, reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. He added these MPs must also share the sufferings of the youth who are in police custody.
He added it is the MPs who lured the youths into action with false promises that they would protect them from the law.
He went on to say it is the MPs who should have been behind bars and not the youths who participated in the demonstrations on the ‘Black Wednesday’.
Meanwhile, several student movements have stressed the need to stop the rampant abuse of power, corruption and violation of the law and Constitution in Kuwait, reports Annahar daily.
In a joint statement recently, the student groups attributed the deteriorating political situation in the country to the prevalence of corruption in many public institutions and non-compliance with the law and the Constitution.
The groups also hold the government responsible for the arbitrary appointments, while emphasizing the importance of resolving conflicts between the ruling family members and respect for the Constitution and the law to save the nation from further collapse.
