Kuwait witnessing dark phase in its history: MP Huraiti denies his role in arresting NA occupiers

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 26:  Kuwait is currently witnessing a dark phase in its history as it continues to face challenges and risks both locally and regionally, reports Al-Anba daily quoting MP Mohammad Al-Huwailah.

Calling on the government and the National Assembly to be wise and respect the law, Al-Huwailah said he is confident in the ability of the Kuwaiti youths, men and women to protect the nation.  He urged them to prioritize national welfare over personal interests.   He also asked the security authorities to immediately release the youths detained by the Public Prosecution for storming the Parliament building, asserting the judiciary must be allowed to do its job.

In a related development, the Nahaj Movement recently issued a statement demanding the release of the youths, claiming they had no criminal intent in storming the legislative building.  It also appealed to the prosecution to take into consideration the fact that the securitymen attacked the youths, most of who have turned themselves in for interrogation. On the other hand, Al-Watan Arabic daily has quoted MP Salem Al-Namlan as saying that the accused has become the jury in the country.  He claimed the bribe-givers and takers are now calling for the implementation of the law on the freedom fighters and anti-corruption campaigners.  He confirmed the opposition loves the ruling family, except HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah due to his failure to efficiently manage the affairs of the country.

Meanwhile, MP Hussein Al-Huraiti has refuted claims that he encouraged Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Sheikh Ahmad Al-Humoud to arrest those who stormed the National Assembly building, reports Al-Rai daily.

In an interview with Al-Rai TV, Al-Huraiti pointed out HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and the entire nation strongly condemn the recent developments in the local arena.  He said everybody agrees that Kuwait is currently going through the most difficult phase in its democratic history.
Affirming his support for calls to lift the immunity of MPs involved in the Parliament building break-in, Al-Huraiti asserted the National Assembly accepted the request of MP Khalid Al-Tahous to lift his immunity when a false accusation was hurled at him.
On the interpellation of the prime minister, Al-Huraiti said the government or any minister has the right to refer grilling requests to the Constitutional Court.
He hopes the prime minister agrees to stand on the grilling podium to clarify a number of issues.
Denying allegations that he was referred to the Public Prosecution for interrogation on the multimillion deposit scandal, Al-Huraiti said there is no truth in these rumors, indicating he has submitted his financial statement, as well as that of his family, to the Parliament speaker for the concerned authorities to scrutinize these documents.  He lamented the Parliament has become a battlefield for the bigwigs in the country.
